CLIENT Global Energy Company (Oil & Gas Major)

INDUSTRY Energy / Upstream Oil & Gas (E&P)

BUSINESS SIZE Global Enterprise (Multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects)

SOLUTIONS Digital Well Planning & Workflow Transformation

The Client

Our client is a global energy company committed to providing reliable, affordable energy

while being a world leader in the evolution to low carbon fuels and helping the world decarbonise. With operations across Australia, Papua New Guinea, the United States and Timor-Leste, the organisation has spent 70 years supplying critical fuels such as oil and gas and working with local communities to provide jobs and power industries and households. As a publicly listed company, it has a diverse portfolio of high-quality, long-cost oil and gas assets, carbon storage resources and infrastructure.

The Challenge

In a complex and multi-layered organisation, the client’s Drilling and Completions (D&C) team

plays a vital role in planning various well development stages across multiple assets. While this requires the exchange of crucial information and data via emails and multiple Excel and PDF files, the existing workflow featured significant drawbacks. They included a convoluted process that made it difficult to navigate, time-intensive procedures and inherent difficulties in maintaining coherence across teams. The manual nature of the process and decentralised data sharing also increased the risk of errors and inefficiencies that could directly impact production.

The Solution

Innovior proposed leveraging Power Platform technology

and lean methodologies to digitise the entire well-planning process and address the pain points being encountered by the D&C team. This included developing a tailor-made app to meet all business requirements and automating data transfer between multiple applications. The transformative solution eliminated the need for multiple emails and Excel sheets in the process workflow, while all reviews and approvals were included within the app for audit and compliance. Automation and real-time collaboration were also considered integral components of the solution to provide support on the project.

Current state of well planning

Current process relies on emails, complex excel sheets and manual data gathering which are prone to error.

The results

With a delivery period of 3-4 months per process, the revamped well planning process will result in a streamlined workflow

that enables transparent communication, swift decisionmaking and strict adherence to compliance. The transformation is estimated to deliver a lower cost unit of $4.4 million per year, work effort savings of three FTE and production attainment savings of about 1%. Other benefits include the integration of information sharing, communication and data management into a unified platform, ensuring a seamless flow of data across teams.
